So last week I mentioned that I had a successful first selling of my Aunt Agnes' Harvest Cakes. This recipe, from my Aunt Agnes (really!), has been made by my mom for years. It is always a hit whether served as dessert or given as a gift. It is a simple cake that includes flour, sugar, oil, eggs, a little bit of salt and baking soda, vanilla extract, apples, walnuts and cranberries. It makes a delicious, hearty treat that melts in your mouth.
We always joked that these cakes would be a hit if we sold them so at my sorority's alumnae holiday market I gave it a try. It was a success! I sold all the cakes I brought (at $20 each) and took orders for more. It may not do a lot of business this season but I now know what I need to do and how to prep for next year where I plan to have a table at a lot of the local holiday markets and craft fairs that pop up this time of year.
...and if you're in St. Louis I'd be happy to take your order for Christmas. A great hostess gift or addition to your family dinner!
It was a great first step and I'm looking forward to continue doing it!
I set up my table with my samples to try, wrapped ready for purchase cakes and additional info. I thought it turned out lovely.
PS: rabbit, rabbit!
