Winter is nature's way of saying, "Up yours."
Robert Byrne

Well, I'm still freezing in St. Louis. My new jacket has been great to keep warm but my poor hands is a mess and they hurt terribly. All of my knuckles are scabbed and I have red bumps all across the top from my skin being so dry.

So, cold weather ladies, what do you recommend? I've heard Aveeno is good and so is the Vaseline line. But do have you have a lotion to recommend for my "princess skin," as Nick would say.

Thanks in advance from my sad little Florida hands.

Oh wow!! That sounds terrible!! Good Luck with getting them not so cracked!

We alternate between Aveeno and Eucerin, both recommended by our dermo. And it also helps to get the best gloves you can find.

Hi, I just found your blog! Thought I could offer some advice!

Use Eucerin - it works well. I also put eye cream on my hands (only the drier patches) and also on my lips. It works pretty well!

Also, go buy a pair of cheap gloves and while you watch TV at night, stick your very lotioned hands into the gloves for a few hours. It works!

Aquaphor by Eucerin- when i moved to Chicago from Houston I used it EVERY NIGHT and I finally got rid of my dry hands!

I don't know if you have it in the States but I use Glysomed religiously in the winter.

Ooh, my hands are all dry and cracked already, too. I recommend aquaphor and also, nut body butter from the Body Shop. Oddly it's the best lotion I've ever tried!

You are definitely right about taking what she said with a grain of salt. It was so recent that I was really dwelling over it, but now, I'm just pushing the thought out of my head, and I can't spend all this time worrying about it. And yes, I know what you mean about precautions! ;) I'll let you know if she turns out right or wrong! :) Keep your fingers crossed for wrong!

I ALWYAS wear gloves! And you should too!

And I'm hooked on Vaseline brand lotions. The hand repair is wonderful and I also use the body lotion. What I love about that line is that its not too greasy. I personally hate it when my hands feel oily 15 minutes after I put the lotion on. A few years back, I bought a humidifier and that has helped my dry skin.

Hang in there! You'll get used to it!

Neutrogena Norwegian Hand Formula. It's hardcore, but it's the BEST stuff ever for when your hands get to the cracked, chapped stage (been there!). It comes in a little tube but a little goes a LONG way.

i like the origins line...i use 'a perfect world' in a giant tub and it really works on this rapidly growing belly...and behind..of mine!

Oh, I hear you on the dry skin front. Ugh. Pittsburgh is freezing at present. It has snowed every morning for the past week!

As for hand creams: I suggest anything by Gold Bond. It absorbs really well, isn't greasy, smells nice, and WORKS.

Also, I recommend Sally Hansen's Vit. E Nail Oil (available at Target). I brush it on before bed--right over my nails and cuticles--and let it absorb in. It makes a world of difference.

Finally, one of the reasons our hands dry out so much is because we don't dry them thoroughly after washing them. Yes, lots of washing will dry them out, but make sure you really, really dry them well--get all the nooks and crannies in your hands (in between fingers, etc.). My friend Rita suffered from dry hands and her dermatologist told her to make sure she really dries her hands off well after washing them.

Good luck! And welcome to "the North!" (Well, more north than you're used to...)

with love from Pittsburgh...
