The grocery store is the great equalizer where mankind comes to grips with the facts of life like toilet tissue.
Joseph Goldberg

I am often asked, "so do you miss Florida?"

Well of course I miss the people I love in Florida - my mom, my friends, so many people I love and even my pets. But actual Florida things I miss? Hmmm....

I really don't miss the beach because I didn't go that often. I don't even miss the weather because the cold here is still a novelty. I may miss the warm weather more after we've been here for a while but now I like it . I don't miss the sports teams really either.

But I really miss Publix. {sigh}

If you aren't from the south or ever visited a Publix, well, it's just the best grocery store ever. Sorry, St. Louis people, your grocery stores pale in comparison the gloriousness of Publix.

Publix is clean, neat and up to date without giving you the feeling you're overpaying for the bakery bread or a bag of apples. Afterall, it's "where shopping is a pleasure!"

The cupcakes are divine (our wedding cake was actually from Publix!) and their subs... oh, I love their fresh made deli subs with a bag of salt and vinegar kettle cooked chips and their homemade tea. They also have a great easy-to-make recipe program called Apron's. I still use so many of those cards.

So if you are in a Publix anytime soon have a sub (Boar's Head Turkey with swiss with spicy mustard on wheat bread, please), pick up an Apron's recipe card and a enjoy a vanilla cupcake for me!

Hi Randall :)

You sound like me when I talk about California. I don't really miss much, but I miss one thing... the food! LOL

Ahh, Publix! I have very fond memories of grocery shopping as a child with my Granny at Publix. Before my Grandpa died, they lived in Sanford, FL.
I really like Dierbergs here but it DEFINITELY makes you feel like you are spending too much money. I think that's because you are!!!

Some of the Schnucks around here carry Boar's Head. Of course, none by my house so I end up trucking it to Ladue to get all the amazing deli meat!

Yes, Publix...I remember that from when I lived in SC. What I miss about the south is sweet tea and Zaxby's!

I always go to Publix when I'm visiting my dad in Naples, FL. Either there or Wynn? i think its called Wynn or Wynn's?

I like how you describe Publix to be wonderful without making you feel like you're overpaying. That is a difficult balance to achieve!

I like Publix too! We always go there when we visit my grandmother. She lives in Ocala. She used to live in Naples until it got so outrageously expensive and then she moved to Ocala.
I didn't know you were from Florida!
I have such fond memories of Naples and visiting my grandparents. I LOVED Jungle Larrys! You could hear the lions roaring all the time from their condo.

I was sighing while reading your post, because I feel the exact same way!! Our wedding cake was from publix too, and people told me it was the best wedding cake they had ever had!! I miss publix SOOO much!

I hope you have a wonderful day!

I'm a little late to add a comment to this, but new to your blog so it's really a new post for me :)

I'll make everyone jealous -- there are 4 Publix within 7 miles of my house! I couldn't leave Florida for that very reason :) But I did grow up, and still work, in Lakeland -- home to Publix -- so I'm pretty sure I bleed green (and not just any green, Publix green!)

Love your blog, can't wait to read more!
